Duncan Castles has been speaking on the latest episode of The Transfer Window podcast, where he discussed Manchester City’s plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Citizens have strung together an incredible 21-game winning run in recent weeks, which has opened up a 15-point gap at the top of the Premier League table.

Despite their incredible displays and remarkable consistency, the Etihad Stadium side are still reportedly set to splash the cash over the summer as Pep Guardiola looks to improve the squad even further.

One area that needs particular attention is up front. Sergio Aguero has been a fantastic servant to City and is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, but the Argentine forward is approaching the twilight years of his career, and his current contract runs out in just a few months’ time.

A replacement for the 32-year-old is, therefore, likely to be high on Guardiola’s wishlist.

Castles said: “One of the priorities is to recruit a striker because of this situation out with Aguero running out of contract and not being available for many games this season. If you’re going to go into that area to replace the most successful striker in the club’s history, you need a very talented player.

“And there is not a great deal of availability at the top end of the transfer market for strikers in the coming summer. Therefore, it’s a complicated choice to make.”

TIF Thoughts on Manchester City…

Aguero has been an incredible player for City ever since he arrived in a £36m move from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.

The diminutive striker has bagged 256 goals in 381 appearances for the Sky Blues and will be extremely difficult to replace.

However, all good things must come to an end, and the injury-prone South American appears to be nearing the exit door at the Etihad.

Signing a top-class replacement seems to be a top priority for Guardiola over the coming months, and who he manages to secure could have long-lasting consequences for the club and their rivals.
