Liverpool journalist Paul Gorst has been sharing his thoughts on Reds attacker Roberto Firmino ahead of the Merseyside club’s upcoming Premier League clash against Fulham.

This comes after Gorst recently made an appearance on a recent episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about a variety of subject concerning Jurgen Klopp’s side.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

On the topic of Firmino and his current run of form heading into this match against Scott Parker’s side this weekend, Gorst had this to say on the matter. (29.27)

He said: “I think Firmino’s probably right for a dropping if I’m being honest,

“I think he’s been well below his standard for far too long now if I’m honest, but I think if he’s going to persist with Firmino, then why not throw [Diogo] Jota in there as well and really go for it and hopefully, something might just change, he might just get a few spaces to be able to work the magic in a little bit more.”

Liverpool signed Firmino back in the 2015 summer transfer window from German club Hoffenheim for a fee of £36.9 million.

Since then, the 29-year-old, who is currently valued at £64.8 million, has made a total of 281 appearances for the Reds, prior to the Fulham game, in which he has managed to score 84 goals and provide 67 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Paul Gorst’s comments on Firmino…

Given how Jota managed to score five goals in his first nine Premier League games earlier in the season before he got injured, and the fact that Firmino has only managed to score one goal in his previous 13 league games, this shows why Gorst thinks the Brazilian should be dropped from the team and potentially replaced by Jota.

Do you think Firmino should be dropped for the Fulham game?

No

In our view, Firmino’s lack of goal contributions in recent weeks should be a cause for concern for Klopp who should now be considering dropping the Brazilian for a period.
