Jurgen Klopp’s men stormed to their first league title in 30 years last season, in large part down to the imperious form of their attacking trident.
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have been tearing up every defence that has stood in their path over recent years, but this campaign has been much more of a struggle.
Their recent woes have led to suggestions that Klopp could be prepared to change things up this summer, and Castles believes one star, in particular, is likely to depart Anfield in the not too distant future.
He said: (44:22) “Firmino, I think his situation has changed because the drop off in performance for Firmino is such that I think Liverpool would be thinking of replacing him anyway but would struggle to get the kind of transfer fee that they’d hoped to get a year ago.
“If you ask me which one I would bet on most likely being to leave first I would say Salah would be the one because he has been most clearly agitating for that move doing the sort of preparatory interviews and in Spain and talking about his desire to play in that league there. You know, these things don’t happen coincidentally.”
TIF Thoughts on Salah…
The Eygpt international has been immense for the Merseyside outfit since joining from Serie A side Roma in a £34m move back in 2017.
Salah has bagged an incredible 119 goals and provided a further 45 assists in 192 appearances for Liverpool, picking up a Champions League crown and Premier League title along the way.
However, all good things must come to an end eventually, and it appears as though Klopp’s charges are in need of some new life up-front, and the 28-year-old’s departure could make room for a couple of fresh faces.
