International fans have taken to Twitter in order to criticise the performance of Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, in England’s recent 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory.

So far this season, Phillips has highly impressed over his 21 Premier League appearances for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with the defensive midfielder making an average of 1.5 interceptions, 2.6 tackles and 1.2 key passes per game, culminating in an average SofaScore match rating of 7.23 – ranking him as the Whites’ best performer in the top flight.

Leeds have had some odd players over the last ten years but how well do you remember them. Starting with the most recent one, who is this?

Seemingly as a result of his fine league form for Leeds so far this season, Gareth Southgate opted to start the £35,000-per-week 25-year-old for England in their recent 2-0 victory over Albania.

However, despite earning a very respectable SofaScore match rating of 7.2 for his performance in the World Cup qualifier, fans of England appeared to be far from happy with the Leeds midfielder’s display in the match, with many taking to Twitter to make their feelings known.

So, what exactly did these England fans have to say in reaction to Kalvin Phillips’ performance against Albania?

“Kalvin Phillips should be nowhere near the England team.”

@BlaneH16

“How can anyone say Phillips was even average that game? He was awful.”

@harrison_COYI

“Phillips is the English Elneny. Shocking footballer.”

@LukaszM_23

“Can someone tell me something that Phillips offers to this England side? Terrible player.”

@jonathon_dent

“DON’T PLAY THE FRAUD KALVIN PHILLIPS.”

@seank1203

“Phillips is dreadful. Bring on JWP or Bellingham ASAP.”

@Finlayj80318470

“Has anyone seen Kalvin Phillips pass forwards yet? Embarrassing.”

@Payne_Joe6

All in all, it would appear as if these England fans were far from happy with the display of Phillips against Albania, something that also appeared to be the case in the victory against San Marino earlier this week.

However, considering the midfielder has averaged a SofaScore match rating of 7.3 over his latest two appearances for the national team, albeit against traditionally weaker opposition, perhaps their comments are slightly harsh on the Leeds man.
