Fans of Leeds United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which Phil Hay discussed the progress of former Leeds midfielder, Alex Mowatt.

So far this season, Mowatt has highly impressed over his 32 Championship appearances for Barnsley, scoring six goals and providing six assists, as well as averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.96 – ranking him as the club’s fourth-best performer in the second tier.

Nice easy one to start off with, what number does Phillips wear for Leeds United?

And, after the £2.7 million-rated 26-year-old – who scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists over his 125 appearances for Leeds – tweeted following his side’s 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday evening, a game in which Mowatt scored one goal and provided two assists, Phil Hay quote-tweeted the midfielder’s post, before stating how pleased he was to see the former Leeds man doing well.

In reaction to the journalist’s tweet, fans of Leeds flocked to have their say on the matter, with many suggesting they would love to see Mowatt make a return to their club.

Was selling Mowatt a mistake?

So, what exactly did these Leeds United fans have to say in reaction to Phil Hay’s post regarding Alex Mowatt?

“Would love him to still be at Leeds, would have been interested to see if Bielsa liked him.”

@jimmy_L_UFC

“Should never have been sold, Phil. That’s Garry Monk for you – preferred Matt Grimes to him. I would have Mowatt back tomorrow, he can play in the 8 or the 10. Imagine how good he could be if Bielsa worked with him.”

@TonyJones1967

“Bielsa would have had a field day turning him into Ronaldinho.”

@Ashli_LUFC

“Very good player, I would have loved to have seen him play under Bielsa.”

@Ryan39552612

“Wish we kept him think he’d be brilliant under Bielsa.”

@_cabbers

“Would be madness seeing him the Prem but here’s hoping.”

@thmkn

All in all, it would appear as if many of these Leeds fans would welcome Mowatt back to the club in a heartbeat, however, considering Barnsley’s recent run of remarkable form has catapulted them into play-off contention, perhaps the midfielder will be more likely to make a return to Elland Road as an opposing player next season.
