Leeds United supporters have been reacting on Twitter after Phil Hay posted a picture of the Elland Road pitch.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are due to welcome high-flying Chelsea to West Yorkshire in the early kickoff, but it’s not just the team news that fans have been keeping a close eye on.

The state of the pitch on Leeds’ home territory has come under increasing scrutiny in reason weeks as the new turf has continued to cut up and cause players to slip on a regular basis.

It was only bought and laid a few weeks ago after Tottenham Hotspur agreed to sell a spare pitch they had to their domestic rivals in a £300,000 deal, however, it clearly hasn’t had the desired effect.

The new surface appears to hold an unusually high amount of water, causing it to be thin and slippery, a far from ideal state to play Premier League football on. The latest images haven’t done anything to ease the fan’s worries ahead of their latest fixture.

“When do we start questioning the ground staff? New pitch, and already looks like wasteland”

@benji_coops

“Don’t let them water that pitch Phil”

@ChanniPatel

“Looks a bit drier. The grass looks dead but it doesn’t look quite so slippery”

@Jamie_Leeds

“That side of the pitch near the dugouts must be pretty much a swamp. Look at the state of it.”

@Purtttt

“That pitch is just embarrassing”

@DeckyQuinn

“state of that pitch”

@samlufcc

“Threadbare”

@AlexanderWils0n

In the modern era, we’re used to pristine pitches and tend to take them for granted. Let’s hope Leeds can get there’s sorted as quickly as possible as their entertaining style of play deserves a surface to match.
