Journalist Charlie Eccleshare has recently talked about the idea of Chris Wilder managing Crystal Palace in the future.
Eccleshare was a guest on the latest episode of the Totally Football Show podcast and the panel discussed various issues involving the Premier League weekend. Eccleshare talked about Crystal Palace and the fact that Roy Hodgson’s contract ends soon. He believes that appointing Wilder would be a ‘sensible’ move from the Eagles in the summer.
Would Chris Wilder be a sensible appointment for Palace?
Yes
No
Wilder has recently left Sheffield United after multiple disagreements with the Blades’ board and the owners. Palace currently find themselves at 11th in the Premier League table and they are only four points behind Arsenal. Hodgson’s contract at Selhurst Park though, runs out in the upcoming summer.
Eccleshare feels that while West Bromwich Albion might also be going down, Palace would be good move for Wilder.
The journalist said (56:35): “West Brom are going to be in the Championship next season, but just linking it back to Chris Wilder and I wonder with Roy Hodgson, his contract expires at the end of the season, would they look at someone like him? That, to me, would feel like quite a sensible appointment.”
TIF Thoughts on Wilder to Palace…
Wilder took Sheffield United from League One to the Premier League, helping the Blades finish as high as ninth in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign. It shows his ability as a manager and the fact that he’s managed in the various divisions of the English footballing pyramid.
While the Blades are in the drop zone currently now that Wilder has left, it has been stated that the 53-year-old didn’t get the sort of transfers that he needed to keep the club in the division.
So if a club like Palace can give him the support that he needs in terms of recruitment, perhaps Wilder can be a good appointment for them.
