Aston Villa journalist Gregg Evans has been sharing some details on the upcoming summer transfer window and specifically what incoming transfers the Birmingham club look to make in it.

This comes after Evans recently made an appearance on the latest episode of The Athletic’s Villa-themed podcast 1874 where he spoke about a number of subjects concerning Dean Smith’s side.

On the topic of the summer transfer window and what type of players the club could look at potentially signing, Evans had this to say on the matter. (27.10)

He said: “I think it’s better for Villa to go and sign players, if at all possible, who are in a good place already and coming into the club with some momentum.

“All I know is that Villa will be targeting the next level of player in the summer, that’s for sure, whether they look at players who are underperforming for big teams, or players who’ve got bit more momentum, I don’t know yet, but I just think that it helps if they’ve got momentum coming into the club.”

So far this season, Villa have won 12 out of the 28 Premier League games they’ve played so far this season, drawing five and losing 11 along the way (per BBC Sport).

TIF Thoughts on Gregg Evans’ comments on the upcoming summer transfer window…

In terms of Villa signing players who have some momentum with them before making the move to Villa Park, Ollie Watkins’ move to the club last summer could be an example of this considering he managed to score 26 goals in 50 appearances during the 2019/20 season for his previous club Brentford before he moved to Villa.

Where do you think Villa should look to strengthen in summer?

In terms of which position Villa could look to strengthen in the summer, taking into accounts how Villa have only managed to win one game and score just three goals in their six previous league fixtures that club captain Jack Grealish has missed, perhaps signing a winger that can fill in for the Englishman if he’s not available and have the same attacking presence that Grealish has would be a good move for the club this summer.
