Charles Watts has given fans an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard.

The 23-year-old French forward, valued at £13.5m on Transfermarkt, has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium for the best part of a year now, and it looks as if he is set to stay on their radar as the club get set to tackle the summer transfer window. However, they won’t be in any big rush to sign him, according to the journalist.

Speaking on the latest edition of his show, Watts confirmed that Arsenal are still interested in making a move for him, but that he doesn’t think he will be the main man that the Gunners are going to be pursuing when the window opens.

He said: “In terms of Edouard, I’ve said before that he’s very much a player that Arsenal like and have been watching for some time now, Leicester also believed to be interested in him. I think this summer is probably the summer that we’re gonna see Edouard leave Celtic.

“Definitely a player that Arsenal looked at and liked, I know that definitely for a fact. I’m not saying he’ll be the priority striker, but he’ll certainly be on the list.”

TIF Thoughts on Charles Watts’ comments about Odsonne Edouard…

Watts is right to urge some level of caution when it comes to Arsenal making him the priority. With a record of 81 goals in 160 games for the club, it certainly is an impressive record, but there is always a danger, given the long-held reputation the Scottish leagues have of not having much quality, that his record might not stand up against tougher opposition.

Just take a look at Nikica Jelavic’s record in England compared to in Scotland – good, but certainly not great. That’s not to say it is beyond improvement; as Moussa Dembele showed when he moved from Celtic to Lyon, it is still possible to transfer from the Scottish Premiership and still be amongst the goals.

So you have to be absolutely sure you’re making the right choice before you splash the cash on him.
