Ron Walker has been speaking on the latest edition of Sky Sports’ Pitch to Post podcast to discuss Arsenal’s recent performances over the last week.

Arsenal won the north London bragging rights on the weekend in their 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur and then progressed through to the final eight of the Europa League on Thursday despite a 1-0 defeat on the night to Olympiacos.

Discussing Arsenal’s defensive performances, Walker admitted only Tierney, who is valued at £27 million (as per Transfermarkt), could be omitted from the criticism after two impressive performances over the last week.

He said: “Yeah, I mean, probably the less said about the defence, the better. Although that said, Kieran Tierney, who I thought was excellent in Greece last week and had a very good game at the weekend against Tottenham as well, was brilliant.

“I mean, a few question marks over him at the start of the season. But I think he’s really adapted to the Premier League well now. He’s put his injury problems that he’s had in the last few years behind him a bit. And yeah, he was excellent.”

The Gunners signed the 23-year-old from Celtic in the summer of 2019 for a fee believed to be in the region of £25m (via Sky Sports).

In an impressive season for Mikel Arteta’s side, Tierney has made 21 appearances for the Gunners in the Premier League alone this season in which he has netted once and grabbed three assists (via Transfermarkt).

Arsenal currently sit just four points behind Tottenham after their win on the weekend but face top-four hopefuls West Ham on Sunday at the London Stadium.

TIF Thoughts on Walker’s comments…

The Sky Sports man was full of praise for Tierney and it is clear to see why. The Scottish full-back has been a real impressive buy for the Gunners and he showed his ability in their victory against their rivals Tottenham at the weekend.

Arsenal seem to have nailed down the left side of the pitch, however, the same cannot be said for the right side, with rumours circulating around Hector Bellerin’s future in north London as Barcelona are said to be interested in the Spaniard.
