It’s been an excellent couple of days for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

On Thursday afternoon, he was named in the England squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland.

It is Phillips’ third international call-up after previously being selected in September and October.

Despite missing nearly a month with a calf injury before he returned a couple of weeks ago, he remained firmly in Gareth Southgate’s thinking.

And his inclusion bodes well for his European Championship prospects.

Phillips justifies England call at Fulham

On Friday night, there was more joy for the 25-year-old as Leeds finally ended a 17-game wait for a win in London.

They beat Fulham 2-1 to move to within two points of the Premier League’s top half.

And Phillips came up with a key contribution.

At 1-1, moments after Ademola Lookman had very nearly given Fulham the lead, he nicked the ball from Mario Lemina on the halfway line, finding Patrick Bamford.

Bamford was then able to thread the ball to Raphinha, who decisively restored Leeds’ advantage.

After the game, Phillips tweeted: “What a win!! Team was immense tonight. Buzzing for my brothers Patrick Bamford & Raphinia. Looking forward to international duty with England next week.”
