West Bromwich Albion journalist and podcaster Chris Lepkowski has been sharing his praise for Baggies full-back Conor Townsend and his recent run of form for the Midlands club.

This comes after Lepkowski recently co-hosted the latest episode of West Brom-themed podcast The Liquidator where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Sam Allardyce’s side, including their recent 0-0 draw against Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Nice easy one to start off with, who currently sits top of the table?

On the subject of Townsend, who played the full 90 minutes against Steve Bruce’s side at the weekend, Lepkowski had this to say about the defender. (10.05)

He said: “I have to say I really felt that he would fall short this season, but he’s actually been a really productive and industrious player.

“There’s no shortage of endeavour there, I think we all appreciate that he isn’t the most technically adept left-back, but in terms of endeavour and enterprise, he is superb. You know every week that he will put a shift in, he may make mistakes, he may not always get that final ball on target or the cross on target, but you know you’re going to get a very solid defensive display.”

West Brom signed Townsend back in the 2018 summer transfer window from League Two side Scunthorpe United for a fee fo £756k.

Since then, the 28-year-old, who is currently valued at £720k, has made 65 appearances for the Baggies in which he has scored just one goal and provided three assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Chris Lepkowski’s comments on Townsend…

Given how Townsend managed to earn himself a match rating of 8.29/10 for his performance against Newcastle, making him the highest-rated player on the day, this just proves why Lepkowski was so impressed with him.

In terms of Lepkowski’s comment on Townsend being solid defensively, the fact that he made more interceptions (4) than any West Brom player against Newcastle, this again proves why Lepkowski was over the moon with his latest display for the club.
