Leeds United fans have been reacting to some news regarding Polish midfielder Mateusz Klich whilst he is away on international duty.

It was confirmed earlier today by Polish Football Association Media Officer Jakub Kwiatkowski that the 30-year-old had come back with a positive virus test whilst meeting up with his national side ahead of their upcoming games with Hungary, Andorra and England over the next few days. He also confirmed that he has been tested again, but has been ruled out of their first game against Hungary tomorrow night.

Klich has been a near ever-present under Marcelo Bielsa, sitting out only one league game since he took over, which is impressive when you consider the high-intensity style that the Argentinian drills into his team.

However, many Leeds fans are far from happy with the news after catching wind from Phil Hay, with international football being the focus point:

“Shows how ridiculous it is to have an international football tournament going on during the pandemic, especially when countries like Poland have big problems with Covid at the moment.”
“International football is just utterly ridiculous at this time, and this proves it”
“Absolute madness International games especially in Europe at this time.”
“Mental that they’re doing international duty at all! And here we are.”
“And so it begins. Ridiculous having these internationals when some countries are going back into lockdown.”
“Internationals in a pandemic. Every country should of borders shut no matter what spreading different variants I wanna be back in south stand this year”

Has Klich been Leeds' most important midfielder?

It’s clear fans have taken issue with the reasons for Klich missing out for his country, with many believing internationals should not be taking place in the current climate.

Hopefully, Klich will not be out of action for too long and will be back to help Leeds consolidate their place in mid-table during what has been a fine first season back in the top flight.
