An easy one to kick off our quiz on the 2020 summer transfer window in the EFL, which player left Birmingham City to join Borussia Dortmund?

On the subject of Byrne, who played the full 90 minutes in the match against Millwall, Conway had this to say about the defender.

He said: “Again, Nathan Byrne was excellent again, really, really good – and out there, he was very vocal out there as well.

“What has been so pleasing about Nathan is when he first came to Derby, he was much more of a defensive-minded right-back. His final product and his attacking qualities weren’t great; they were okay, but he was much more of an accomplished defender then he was an attacker.

“As the season’s gone on, Nathan’s got really, really good at getting quality crosses into the box, and he did that again [against Millwall].”

Derby signed Byrne on a two-year deal from Wigan Athletic back in September for an undisclosed fee. Since then, the 29-year-old, who is currently valued at £1.35 million, has made 32 appearances for Wayne Rooney’s side in which he has managed to grab himself two assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Ryan Conway’s comments on Byrne and his performance against Millwall…

Given how Byrne managed to earn himself an impressive match rating of 7.61/10, the highest of any Derby player on the day, and also made more key passes (7) and accurate crosses (6) than any other Derby player (per WhoScored), it’s understandable why Conway has shared this praise for him and highlighted his attacking prowess.

Moving forward, if Byrne can continue putting in performances like he did against Millwall throughout the remainder of the season, he will have had a fairly positive debut season with the Rams.
