Pundit Paul Fisher has recently talked about Callum McGregor’s situation at Parkhead right now.

Fisher appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the Grand Auld podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was Celtic’s recent 2-1 win over Motherwell in the Premiership. Fisher talked about McGregor and he believes that the Scotsman is ‘frustrated’ and he seems ‘fatigued’ by the current season.

McGregor is a product of the Celtic youth academy and he had spent a season on loan at Notts County in the past. Over the years, the midfielder has made 313 appearances for the Bhoys. He has found the back of the net 53 times, while picking up 62 assists for the Hoops (as per Transfermarkt).

Fisher believes that McGregor has played so much this season that he can end up running himself to the ground soon.

He said (7:42): “Players like Callum McGregor have played every minute under the sun. How far is that going to be able to continue for before he just runs himself into the ground. There are signs of it. He does look fatigued at times during games and he does look frustrated because I think he knows that with a better two or three players around him then he would be in a much better position to relax.”

TIF Thoughts on Fisher’s comments on McGregor…

A report by CIES Football Observatory recent stated that McGregor was in the top ten for the most number of minutes played in football in 2020.

In the current campaign, the Scotsman has played as many as 3240 minutes of first-team football in all competitions. No player has played more minutes for the Bhoys in the 2020/21 season. Kristoffer Ajer is at second in the table, having played 2823 minutes (as per Transfermarkt).

So clearly, McGregor has played quite a lot of football in recent months and since he has picked up an impressive rating of 7.13 in the league, the Hoops should try their best to protect him.
