Journalist Peter Martin has recently made a claim about Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

Martin recently hosted the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed multiple issues involving Scottish football. One topic of discussion was Celtic’s recent victory over Kilmarnock. Martin talked about Griffiths’ current situation at Parkhead and stated his belief that the Scotsman will leave Celtic in the summer transfer window.

The Hoops picked up a 4-0 win over Kilmarnock, as Odsonne Edouard grabbed a brace. As far as Griffiths was concerned, the Scottish striker was left on the bench. Neil Lennon had recently spoken about the striker and said that he can only play a chunk of games at the moment as he needs to train more to improve his fitness.

Martin believes that Griffiths’ days at Parkhead are numbered and he will depart the club soon.

He said: “My personal opinion on it is I think his days are numbered. I think Leigh Griffiths will be leaving in the summer. You talk about a cat with nine lives – I look at the situation and I just get a sense that all is not well between player and manager. He needs to buck up his ideas, but I think he will be one of many players that will be on his way in the summer.”

TIF Thoughts on Martin’s comments on Griffiths…

Griffiths has not been in the Celtic squad for a number of games in the current campaign and the striker was injured when the season kicked off. He had also turned up to pre-season training in an overweight condition, which only added to the controversy he was involved in last year, when he was reminded of his responsibilities as photos had emerged of him hosting a party which breached government protocols.

This isn’t the first time that Lennon has urged him to get his fitness up to standard, as he had publicly criticised him before the season started. So while he has scored six times in all competitions, Griffiths doesn’t seem to be learning too much and the criticism doesn’t appear to have worked, either. So if things don’t improve quickly, Celtic might have to consider allowing him to leave.
