Scottish football journalist John McGarry has recently talked about the situation of Odsonne Edouard.

McGarry appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the Celtic Huddle podcast and the panel talked about multiple issues involving the Hoops. One topic of discussion was Edouard and his future at Parkhead. The journalist revealed Celtic’s asking price for the Frenchman and also said that Paris Saint-Germain have a sell-on clause too.

Edouard had arrived at Celtic from PSG in the summer of 2018 on a permanent basis after an initial loan spell at Parkhead. He had joined Celtic for a fee of £9.27 million (as per Transfermarkt).

In the summer transfer window, the Frenchman was linked with a move to Premier League clubs like Aston Villa, Leicester City and Crystal Palace. Brighton were also linked with the striker.

McGarry revealed that Celtic are currently looking for a fee over £20 million for the Frenchman since they signed him for a little less than £10 million and they’d want to yield some profit in the deal too.

He said (33:56): “Celtic would have to still be looking at a fee of north of £20 million for Edouard, because they’ve invested 10 million pounds on him. I understand that PSG are still due quite a generous sell-on.”

TIF Thoughts on Edouard…

Edouard clearly has attracted the interest of multiple clubs and that is evident from the number of Premier League sides that want him. This might aid Celtic in inciting a bidding war for the forward.

Edouard’s current deal at Celtic runs out in the summer of 2022 anyway, which means that the upcoming summer transfer window will be the Hoops’ best chance of selling the 23-year-old.

Considering that Edouard has contributed to 23 goals in all competitions this season though, he is an important player for Celtic. So with the summer transfer window approaching and it being Celtic’s last possible chance of getting a good fee, they should try to earn as much as they can from his sale.
