Former Celtic man Kelvin Wilson has talked about Patrick Roberts and whether the Hoops should make a move for the Englishman.

Wilson was a guest on the latest episode of the Celtic Huddle podcast and the panel talked about multiple potential transfers for the Bhoys. One player that they talked about was Patrick Roberts and whether the Hoops should look to bring the Manchester City man back to Parkhead.

Roberts had previously spent two spells on loan at Celtic. He had spent the first half of the current season on loan at Middlesbrough but the stint ended in January and he’s now on a temporary stint at Wayne Rooney’s Derby County. Last season, he was on loan at Norwich City (as per Transfermarkt).

Wilson gave his opinion about Roberts and said that he would be a good signing for Celtic and he believes that the winger enjoyed his previous stints at Parkhead.

Should Celtic look to re-sign Patrick Roberts?

He said (25:26): “Yeah definitely, I think he enjoyed it. I think what they need to get is players that are hungry. Not have to be just young players, players that are hungry and want to win and want to go on. Just going back to the squad now – every time I watch Celtic, I watch them on TV, I’m just like they’re just not bothered.

“It shocked me because, I know if there was fans there, it’d be completely different. Because they’d have to, the fans would give them no choice. But because there isn’t, it’s like I’m watching a pre-season or a testimonial game a lot of the times. It’s slow, they concede a goal, they get the ball, walk. It’s like – I can’t believe this is happening, this is for ten in a row. Come on. That’s the thing they need to look for – hungry players. Players that really want to play for Celtic.”

TIF Thoughts on Patrick Roberts…

Roberts had impressed for the Bhoys during his loan stints at the club. He made 78 appearances in all competitions for them, scoring 18 times and getting as many as 26 assists for them (as per Transfermarkt). He is currently valued at £2.25m.

He is a right winger by trade and in the current Celtic side, there is no out-and-out option for the right wing spot. James Forrest can play in that position but he’s currently injured. So Roberts can add another option on the right and bringing him back would be a good move for the Hoops.
