of Celtic have taken to Twitter to criticise the performance of central midfielder, Callum McGregor, in the Bhoys’ Premiership fixture against St Johnstone.

So far this season, McGregor has been an ever-present fixture in Neil Lennon’s Premiership side, with the £5.85 million-rated 27-year-old starting all 27 of the club’s league fixtures, over which he has scored three goals and provided six assists, well as averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.15 – ranking him as the club’s joint-eighth best performer in the Scottish top flight, prior to the St Johnstone game.

Which club did Brown join Celtic from?

However, after once again being given the nod to start the Bhoys’ fixture against the Saints on Sunday, McGregor’s performance appeared to do very little to impress Celtic fans, many of whom took to Twitter to criticise the display of the Scotland international.

Should Lennon drop McGregor?

So, what exactly did these Celtic fans have to say regarding the performance of Callum McGregor?

“Christie brings so much more to the than McGregor. It’s time he was dropped.”

“Too easy to get a cross in, defenders dragged out of position and woeful attempt to clear by Taylor and McGregor.”

“Turnbull McGregor & Eddy reported missing”

“Why was Duffy awol and Ajer marking what Duffy should be doing? McGregor looks done in and should have been taken off at half time.”

“Callum McGregor needs to be dropped for Soro.”

“Going through the motions doesn’t even come close to describing this performance. Saint Johnstone hungover, better organized and clearly more motivated than Celtic at this point McGregor an absolute shadow of the player he once was. Can’t be an automatical pick anymore.”

“McGregor is howling anol.”

“McGregor has been particularly bad again today.”

“Callum McGregor has been woeful for months.”

“Pathetic attempt there from McGregor and Taylor. Goalkeeper situation needs to be addressed quickly.”

“Horrendous defending from Taylor & McGregor.”

“McGregor having a stinker so far.”

“His ability to become invisible is incredible.”

As per SofaScore, the Scotland international was the worst-rated midfield option, earning a 6.4 rating and it’s easy to see why as the experienced star lost possession 19 times, the second-most of any Hoops player. He also won only 33% of his duels, both aerially and on the ground.

All in all, it would appear that these Celtic fans were far from happy with the performance of McGregor, with some stating their belief that the midfielder has been off his game for weeks, while others took aim at the 27-year-old for his apparent hand in St Johnstone’s goal.
