A lot of Celtic fans have been left angry after a video involving a foul on Stephen Welsh recently emerged on social media, which originated from Sky Sports.

While Neil Lennon’s men did beat St. Mirren 4-0 recently in the Premiership, the game involved a flashpoint involving Welsh and Jon Obika. After this, the young Celtic defender was stretchered off because of an injury.

Tom Rogic had scored the opener for the Hoops and Odsonne Edouard scored from the penalty spot. Ryan Christie and David Turnbull got a goal each late on too (as per Sky Sports).

Did Obika deserve a red card for the foul on Welsh?

Obika was given a yellow card for the challenge but the video involving this challenge was relayed on Twitter by Celtic1967.com. A lot of Hoops supporters flocked to this video and made their views clear about it.

What did Celtic fans make of Obika’s foul?

“So there no chance Obika is getting the ball based on this footage, why make the challenge then? So straight red for me.”

After the game, Lennon was asked for an update regarding Welsh’s injury and the Celtic boss confirmed that the youngster’s foot ‘is in a pot’ right now and because of that, it is tough to find out the extent of the damage. He made it clear that the situation seemed ‘stable’ when the defender had his foot padded up.

He also went on to praise Welsh for his performances, saying that the club has been pleased by his showings and there is hope that he returns soon.

“Only half an hour late, disgusting. Tactical challenge knowing Duffy would come on. Hope Welsh is ok he’s been solid for us.

Some of these Celtic supporters didn’t like the challenge at all and they believe that Obika should’ve got a red card for the challenge.

The 21-year-old Welsh has made nine appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys this season, having picked up a rating of 7.15 in the Premiership. When he has started at centre-back, he has a rating of 7.05 and it shows how reliable a defender he has been in the campaign (as per Transfermarkt).

With Hatem Abd Elhamed having left Celtic and Christopher Jullien injured, the Hoops wouldn’t want too many more troubles at the back. So losing Welsh because of an injury will be a blow for them.
