Wilson appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the Celtic Huddle podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Hoops. They talked about potential transfers in the summer and Wilson talked about Davies. He believes that when Liverpool have Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez back fit, Davies would fall down the pecking order and the Hoops should then sign him on a loan deal.
Should Celtic make a loan move for Ben Davies?
Davies had initially agreed a pre-contract summer move to Celtic but Liverpool then signed him permanently in January by paying a fee of £1.6million to Preston North End. Liverpool’s signing of the defender came because of injuries suffered by former Celtic ace Van Dijk and England international Gomez.
Wilson believes that Davies will get loaned out by Liverpool next season and he feels that Celtic should capitalise on any such chance.
He said (20:53): “When Van Dijk’s back in the summer, Gomez is back, they’ve got their defenders back, he’s probably going to be loaned out next year. So Celtic could look at that. Get him in for a season, something like that. There’ll be a few options but it’s just getting the right one now.”
TIF Thoughts on Ben Davies…
Davies is yet to play a single game for Liverpool in the current season, but he’s been on the bench twice so far. For Preston, the defender was a regular in the Championship and made 19 appearances for the side (as per Transfermarkt).
For Preston, he picked up a good rating of 6.82 this season and he’s been a regular part of their side over the years too (as per Whoscored).
This shows that Davies is a reliable centre-back and with Shane Duffy leaving at the end of the campaign, he might be a good loan signing for the Hoops.
