Celtic legend Chris Sutton has recently been discussing the future of the club’s defender Kristoffer Ajer.

Sutton appeared on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel talked about multiple issues involving the Bhoys. Sutton was asked about the situation of numerous Celtic players and one man that he gave his opinion about was Kristoffer Ajer, stating that the Norwegian has made noises about wanting to depart Parkhead soon.

Ajer arrived at Celtic in the summer of 2016 but the defender spent a loan stint at Kilmarnock in the second half of the 2016/17 campaign. He has been at Celtic ever since but the 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Milan as well as Premier League outfit Leicester City. Ajer is currently valued at £3.6m, as per Transfermarkt.

In the summer transfer window, Ajer’s representatives had asked for information from Celtic about their valuation of the defender. Sutton believes that given the speculation surrounding his future, the Norwegian will eventually leave this summer.

The Hoops legend said: “Kristoffer Ajer – one year left on his contract. He’s made noises, or it seems to be that he’s made noises where, you know, he wants to try something else. So it looks like he’ll be off.”

TIF Thoughts on Ajer’s future…

Ajer has been a regular feature of Celtic’s backline this season, having made 26 Premiership appearances and having played 35 times in all competitions. Apart from having played at centre-back, he has also played at right-back (as per Transfermarkt).

Which club did Brown join Celtic from?

The 22-year-old has impressed too, picking up a rating of 7.15/10 in the league. Only seven Celtic players have managed to get better ratings than the defender (as per WhoScored).

This is a reflection of how important a player he is for the Hoops and considering his versatility and ability, he might be a tough player to replace.
