Fans of Tottenham Hotspur have taken to Twitter to praise the performance of Spurs centre-back Davinson Sanchez.
Prior to the Burnley fixture, Sanchez had found game time somewhat hard to come by under Jose Mourinho this season, with the £36 million-rated 24-year-old starting just 10 Premier League fixtures for Spurs, making one further appearance from the bench, over which the defender had averaged a rather disappointing WhoScored match rating of 6.47 – ranking him as the club’s ninth-worst performer in the top flight.
However, after Mourinho opted to start the Colombia international in Sunday’s fixture against the Clarets, fans of Tottenham appeared delighted with the display of the centre-back, with many taking to Twitter to heap a considerable amount of praise on Sanchez.
Should Sanchez keep his starting spot?
So, what exactly did these Tottenham Hotspur fans have to say in reaction to Davinson Sanchez’s performance against Burnley?
“Never thought I’d say this but what a defender Davinson Sanchez is. Top ability, just lacks concentration at times.”
“Everyone playing well. Sanchez carrying the centre-back partnership.”
“Davinson Sanchez has been so aerially dominant today. Deserves a lot of credit.”
“And whisper it but Davinson Sanchez has been impressive too. Not put a foot wrong, marshalled the defence well and shut down any threat quickly. Much better from him.”
“Sanchez has been imperious today I won’t lie to you.”
“Sanchez’s best game for Spurs in a long time.”
“Sanchez has been one of our best players today. He’s been everywhere across that backline.”
“Shades of Sanchez’s first season when he was beside Vertonghen today, he’s been brilliant.”
“Sanchez has been insane today!”
“Gotta give credit to Sanchez he’s been amazing.”
“Sanchez is having a masterclass but, of course, that’ll go under the radar.”
“Games like this still give me hope that Sanchez can turn into a top-class centre-back. Been unbelievable today.”
All in all, it would seem as if these Tottenham fans were delighted with the display of Sanchez against Burnley, and, considering the £65k per week centre-back made eight clearances, blocked one shot, won 11 aerial duels and three ground duels and earned a SofaScore match rating of 7.6 for his efforts in the fixture, it is not difficult to understand why.
