A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from Keith Downie, which contains injury news ahead of the Toon’s Premier League game with Southampton.

Starting with an easy one, how much did Joelinton cost Newcastle when he swapped Hoffenheim for Tyneside?

In the post, the Sky Sports reporter lists out all of the defensive players who will be missing for the Toon.

Some of the players that will definitely miss the game include Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett, while Downie claimed that Jamal Lewis and Ciaran Clark were doubts.

However, Bruce later confirmed in his press conference that Lewis would definitely miss the game, though Clark could potentially make it.

This has angered these Toon fans who feel that their club should be more prepared.

And we let a defender go in the window, what a club .”

Absolutely laughable that anybody is surprised. Lascelles’ injuries have become more frequent since Bruce arrived. Dummett hasn’t been fit since 2019. Clark (I know it’s his wife’s pregnancy) is injury-prone as it is. Lejeune out on loan. Baffling. Utterly baffling.”

Can one limit the crisis label to only “defensive injury”? I think it’s a season crisis”

@Matt_W87

Do you think Newcastle should have recalled Lejeune?

Yes, we could have done with him

Yes, we could have done with him

No, we don't need him

No, we don't need him

If you look at Newcastle’s squad, you can see that they should have enough available to cover the injuries, but if Clark can’t make it, then Isaac Hayden will probably have to play centre-back, which is not his natural position.

The Toon do have Florian Lejeune out on loan, which seems a strange call to have made given this current situation – and that is what these Newcastle fans focused on.

Followed by putting Atsu in the 25 man squad and letting Yedlin leave without getting anyone in his place. Oh and by the way our best defender Lejuene is out on loan. We deserve everything we get.”

@NUFCLennon

Can he not recall our best centre half who he loaned out ?”

@InnTooned

Good think he loaned out Lejeune then, for absolutely no reason whatsoever”

@JackMey1

So, it looks like Newcastle could have a bit of a defensive crisis, and it will be intriguing to see what sort of side they put out against the Saints.
