Chris Waugh has been speaking on a special transfer deadline day video on Twitter from The Athletic about all of the business that Newcastle United are hoping to complete today.

Starting with an easy one, how much did Joelinton cost Newcastle when he swapped Hoffenheim for Tyneside?

DeAndre Yedlin is thought to be in Turkey going through his medical to complete a move to Galatasaray, which will free up a space in the Toon’s Premier League squad.

According to Waugh, Steve Bruce wants to add at least one central midfielder, and they have been linked with moves for Hamza Choudhury, Joe Willock and Olivier Ntcham.

However, it appears as if Leicester midfielder Choudhury is the Toon’s number-one target.

He said: “Newcastle have enquiries in left, right, and centre.

“Choudhury is, I think, the number-one target who they would really like – and they are waiting on Leicester City to see what happens there.”

Do you think Newcastle will sign Choudhury?

TIF Thoughts on the Toon’s interest in Choudhury…

It seems that the 23-year-old is Bruce’s preferred target to boost his midfield options; however, it looks like him leaving is dependent on Leicester City signing a replacement, with the Foxes looking at Nathaniel Chalobah and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

So, the Toon could have a nervous wait to see if they can bring in the Leicester man; however, if they do, they will be signing someone who can play as either a central midfielder or as a defensive midfielder.

Choudhury also scored against Newcastle at St. James’ Park last season but has barely featured for Leicester this term.

However, it seems that the Toon are looking at him despite his lack of game time and we will be intrigued to see if he ends up on Tyneside by the close of the window today.
