Robbie Mustoe thinks that Liverpool’s win in the Champions League can act as a major turning point in the club’s season.

Liverpool had been going through a rather tough February, and were coming off a rather disappointing loss against Leicester City the previous weekend in a game filled with plenty of errors from Jürgen Klopp’s men. So a loss in the Champions League could have just piled on that misery ahead of a crucial run in the Premier League as they desperately hope to hang on to their spot in the top four.

And speaking on The 2 Robbies Podcast, Mustoe claims that their victory over Red Bull Leipzig will give them just enough relief to help ease the pressure just a little bit in order for them to focus on the league campaign moving forward.

He said: “Can you imagine if they had gone there and lost that game? The pressure, the talk, the scrutiny on Jurgen Klopp and this Liverpool side and whichever players maybe didn’t play well, your Kabaks or whoever it is – if the game in Hungary didn’t go the way that it did.

“It changes quite a lot and I think that the confidence will be back with Liverpool now.”

TIF Thoughts on Robbie Mustoe’s comments about Liverpool and their confidence…

Mustoe is absolutely right when it comes to his comments about how big that win was for Liverpool in midweek.

If they had lost that game and found themselves staring down the barrel of being knocked out, potentially leaving them with nothing but the top four to fight for this season, then the pressure on Klopp’s shoulders would surely have grown even further.

And whilst that pressure might not be totally off, given how important this game is in their chase for European football, to go into the Everton clash in a positive mood rather than off the back of four straight defeats could turn out to be a deciding factor.
