Speaking recently on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano discussed Liverpool’s potential interest in a summer move for LOSC Lille central midfielder, Renato Sanches.

Since joining Lille from Bayern Munich in what was an £18 million deal in the summer of 2019, Sanches has so far gone on to make 45 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, chipping in with five goals and providing two assists along the way.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

So far this season, the £25.2 million-rated 23-year-old has performed admirably over his 13 league appearances for Christophe Galtier’s side, scoring one goal and providing one assist, as well as averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.73 – ranking him as the 14th-best performer in a team who currently occupy first place in the French top flight.

And, with Liverpool being linked with a move for the Portugal international in the January transfer window, Romano, speaking on the Here We Go podcast, recently stated his belief that Sanches could well be a target for Jurgen Klopp’s side once again this summer.

He said: “I want to mention, keep an eye on Renato Sanches because this guy is one of the names on the list – if they go for another midfielder. He’s not the only one, there is nothing done or advanced, but he’s one of the players they are following.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments regarding Renato Sanchez…

With Romano himself reporting earlier this year that the contract situation of current Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum – whose deal expires at the end of the season – is ‘complicated‘ at present, it would appear as if any move for Sanches this summer very much depends on whether or not the club can convince the Dutchman to remain at Anfield.

However, after comparing Sanches’ and Wijnaldum’s attribute overviews on SofaScore, it would appear that, if Wijnaldum does indeed leave the Reds this summer, Sanches could actually be considered an upgrade on the 30-year-old, as the Lille midfielder betters Wijnaldum in his attacking, creative, tactical and technical attributes.
