Liverpool journalist Connor Dunn has been sharing some details on the possibility of the Merseyside club making a future transfer move for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe.
This comes after Dunn recently made an appearance on the latest episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he discussed a range of topics concerning Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He said: “It’s basically this summer or never if they want him because he’ll be on [the] last year of his contract this summer and if PSG tie him down to another five years, he’ll double in price comfortably.
“So, if he hasn’t signed by then you’ve got to be thinking is he looking for another challenge looking for another club after winning almost everything with PSG obviously apart from the Champions League, but he is going to cost comfortably upwards of £150 million for just the transfer fee, and his wages will probably totally break the wage structure at Liverpool, you’d probably be thinking they’d be selling [Mohamed] Salah or [Sadio] Mane plus [Naby] Keita to get Mbappe in.”
Would you be happy to sell Mane or Salah to fund a move for Mbappe?
PSG signed Mbappe on a loan deal from fellow French club AS Monaco back in August 2017 before signing him on a permanent deal in the following July for a fee of £130.5 million.
Overall, the 22-year-old, who is currently valued at £162 million, has made 151 appearances for PSG across all competitions in which he has managed to score 108 goals and provide 59 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).
TIF Thoughts on Connor Dunn’s comments on a potential move to Liverpool for Mbappe…
Given how it was previously reported that Klopp had made contact with Mbappe’s representatives over a potential move to Merseyside before he went to PSG, it will be interesting to see whether or not he will try once again to get the Frenchman to join his squad this summer.
However, with Dunn having claimed that the club would probably have to cash in on players such as Salah, Mane and Keita to allow them to be able to afford Mbappe, this just highlights how complicated a move for Mbappe could be, therefore suggesting to us that perhaps they should not attempt to sign him this summer.
