Leeds United fans have been left slightly concerned after some news regarding Ian Poveda came out from their U23 match.

The young side won their match 2-0 thanks to goals from Tyler Roberts and Niall Huggins, but the main talking point concerned the fitness of winger Ian Poveda, as it was revealed by Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Graham Smyth that he had to be helped from the field late in the second half, having only come on as a substitute at half time.

The 20-year-old has been used sparingly this season by Marcelo Bielsa, so a game like this is a good chance for him to keep his fitness levels up ready for when the first team need him, so to lose him in this fashion is a pretty hard pill to swallow considering there’s a game on Wednesday night to think about.

And whilst it’s too early to tell how serious it is or how long he will be out, that didn’t stop these fans from starting to worry:

“Hopefully nothing serious he’s a real talent and would be a big miss for the U23’s and the first team.”

“And the injuries keep coming…..”
“Another injury we could do without”
“Noo”
“Poveda out now can’t make it up tbh”
“Poveda now injured….. Not sure we will put a team out at this rate”

Do you think Poveda has been a flop?

Yes, not getting into the squad

Yes, not getting into the squad

No, too early to tell

No, too early to tell

At least one positive is that he is seen as a backup player, so it’s not as if the first team are set to miss someone vitally important, although given Bielsa’s tendency to carry a small squad and the current injuries the team are battling with, it does leave them with little wriggle room when it comes to strength in depth.
