Aston Villa podcaster Aaron Clark has been sharing his criticism for Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi after his performance during the Birmingham club’s recent 2-1 defeat against Leicester City in the Premier League.

This comes after Clark recently made an appearance on The Villa View Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Dean Smith’s side, including their recent defeat at Villa Park against the Foxes.

First up in this Gareth Barry quiz, which club did Villa sign the midfielder from?

On the subject of El Ghazi, who started the game against Brendan Rodgers’ side and substituted off in the second half, Clark had this to say on the winger. (11.54)

He said: “El Ghazi, I’ve said it from the start, I said it from the first season that we had him, that I didn’t think he was the right player for us moving forward in the Premier League.

“I don’t think the quality is there for him. He’s so inconsistent, his attitude for me is debatable. I don’t dislike the boy, I’ve seen the boy put some great shifts in for us in [big occasions] for us and key goals here and there, but the quality is just not there.”

Villa signed El Ghazi on a loan deal from French side LOSC Lille back in August 2018 before signing him on a permanent deal in July 2019 for £8.1 million.

Overall, the 25-year-old, who is currently valued at £7.2 million, has made 93 appearances for the Villans in which he has managed to score 18 goals and provide 13 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Aaron Clark’s comments on El Ghazi…

Given how El Ghazi only made 17 passes in the game against Leicester with an accuracy percentage of 94.1% and an overall match rating of 6.23/10 (per WhoScored), this suggests that Clark is right to doubt whether or not the winger has the quality in him to perform for Villa in the Premier League.

Is Anwar El Ghazi good enough to play for Villa?

In our view, with Jack Grealish out injured for a while, El Ghazi will need to step up his performances when he gets the chance if he wants to stake his claim in this team while the Englishman is out of action.
