Aston Villa journalist Ashley Preece has been discussing Villa full-back Matty Cash and the injury he sustained during the club’s recent 0-0 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

This comes after Preece recently made an appearance on a Q&A episode of the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast where he answered a variety of questions regarding Dean Smith’s side.

First up in this Gareth Barry quiz, which club did Villa sign the midfielder from?

On the subject of Cash’s hamstring injury and how long the Englishman could be out of action for, Preece had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Villa have had two hamstring injuries this season, first of which was Ross Barkley, he missed seven games and then Trezeguet done his hamstring on the eve of the Wolves fixture in November and he missed seven games, so judging by that, Matty Cash out for seven games, a massive concern, isn’t it?”

Villa signed Cash in the previous summer transfer window from Championship side Nottingham Forest for a fee of £14.18 million.

Since arriving at Villa Park, the 23-year-old right-back, who is currently valued at £10.8 million, has played in all but one of Villa’s league games so far this season (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Ashley Preece’s comments on Cash’s injury…

Given how Cash has managed to earn himself a solid season rating of 7.09/10 for his league performances (as per WhoScored), making him the highest-rated defender in Villa’s squad out of the players to have played five or more league games in this campaign, this just shows how much of a loss he could be for the team and why Preece thinks it is a massive concern for Smith moving forward.

Will Matty Cash be a big miss for Villa?

Yes

No

No

Also, with Cash having made more tackles (2.6) and interceptions (2.3) per game than any other Villa player in the league so far this season, this suggests that the team could be defensively weaker while Cash is out of action.
