Image for Leeds United: Phil Hay issues Klich fitness concern

Leeds United journalist Phil Hay has recently voiced concerns over the fitness of Mateusz Klich ahead of the Whites’ next Premier League game.

Hay appeared on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show and the panel discussed multiple issues for Leeds ahead of their Premier League clash against Wolves. Hay talked about the fitness of multiple players and he talked about Klich’s fitness.

Hay felt that Klich could be a doubt for the game against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men having played through injury at Arsenal last weekend.

The Polish midfielder could play only 45 minutes of the tie before being replaced by Welsh midfielder Tyler Roberts in the second half (as per Transfermarkt).

Has Klich been Leeds' most important midfielder?

Hay feared that Klich could be a big question mark for Marcelo Bielsa’s side against Wolves following his exertions against Arsenal.

Speaking before Marcelo Bielsa’s pre-match press conference, the journalist said: “I think a bigger question mark will be over Klich this weekend, given that he had that hip injury against Arsenal and he played for 45 minutes, but was off after 45 minutes as well. I would imagine that could well be doubtful.”

Nice easy one to start off with, what number does Phillips wear for Leeds United?

TIF Thoughts on Klich…

30-year-old Klich has been an important player for Leeds this season, having made 23 Premier League appearances and contributing to eight goals in the division for the Whites (as per WhoScored).

However, despite Bielsa insisting in his press conference that Klich would be fit, it may be worth noting Hay’s concern over his fitness considering that the midfielder was apparently playing ‘through the pain‘ last weekend.

To recover from an injury he had apparently sustained prior to playing in the Arsenal game on Sunday would be some progress in the space of five days, and it will also be interesting to see how he does cope should he make the squad this evening.

While ten Leeds players have picked up better ratings than the Pole this season, only three players in the team have contributed to more goals than him. He is joint-second in terms of key passes per game and shows how creative he is in midfield (as per WhoScored).

Although it will be interesting to see what line-up Bielsa opts for against Wolves, not having a player like Klich at his disposal might be a blow for him and Leeds.
