Nice easy one to start off with, what number does Phillips wear for Leeds United?

On the subject of the upcoming summer window and whether or not the club could look to bring a new midfielder to Elland Road, Hay had this to say on the matter. (40.05)

He said: “I think they will address the midfield. I’ve heard it said a couple of times now that they will look and see if they can do anything in the [Kalvin] Phillips position, whether they can find somebody young, somebody who would be that kind of up-and-coming player.

“I mean essentially, with Philips there, there’s no point trying to sign an elite central-midfielder in a defensive role, because when Philips is fit, they’re not going to play.”

Since making his senior debut for the Yorkshire club back in April 2015, Phillips, who is currently valued at £24.3 million, has made 200 appearances for Leeds in which he has managed to score 12 goals and provide 12 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Hay’s comments on Leeds’ potential search for a midfielder in the summer transfer window…

So far this season, Phillips has managed to earn himself a solid season rating of 7.06/10 for his performances in the Premier League so far this season, making him Leeds’ second-highest rated player behind Liam Cooper (per WhoScored).

Do you think Leeds need to sign a midfielder in summer?

Yes

No

No

Given how Leeds have only won two out of the seven Premier League games that Phillips has missed so far this season, it would make sense for Leeds to sign a midfielder that can play in the Englishman’s position when he’s not in the team at an adequate level of quality.
