Fans of Leeds United have taken to Twitter to criticise the performance of Leeds’ centre-back, Liam Cooper, in the Whites’ Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Saturday.

Prior to the Villa game, Cooper had impressed over his 19 Premier League fixtures for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, making an average of 2.8 tackles, 2.3 interceptions and three clearances per game, culminating in an average WhoScored match rating of 7.09 – ranking him as the club’s third-best performer in the top flight.

Nice easy one to start off with, what number does Phillips wear for Leeds United?

However, after Anwar El Ghazi gave Dean Smith’s side an early lead against the Whites on Saturday, fans of Leeds flocked to Twitter to criticise the £6.3 million-rated 29-year-old for his part in Villa’s goal, as well as the Scotland international’s performance during the fixture in general.

So, what exactly did these Leeds United fans have to say in reaction to Liam Cooper’s performance against Aston Villa?

“Awful Cooper – miles behind everyone else.”

@jordan_bullen

“Liam Cooper just is nowhere near good enough for this level.”

@Wardyyy96

“Cooper has to be stronger there.”

@OliWhiteMOT93

“Cooper didn’t come out with the rest to play El Ghazi onside. League One defending. Can’t wait for Koch & Llorente next season.”

@LS10Whites

“Honestly Liam Cooper. LUFC please get him out of this team. How on earth is he our captain?”

@mindfulnow

“Oh dear, what was Cooper doing then? Stood behind Mings instead of stepping up.”

@cheeno64

“How does Cooper go from brilliant against Southampton to really worrying a game later?”

@LukeMOTv2

All in all, it would seem as if these Leeds fans have not been impressed with the display of the £6.5k per week Cooper thus far, with some questioning how the defender is the club captain, while others stated their belief that the centre-back’s level of defending is League One standard.
