Leeds United fans have been reacting to the performance of Liam Cooper during the first half of their game against Everton.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men went into the game on the back of two successive wins in the league as they continue to cement their place in the Premier League under the Argentinian. It was always going to be a tough test against Everton, who are having a memorable year themselves, having been tipped to possibly challenge for a European spot.

However, one player who, at least in the eyes of the supporters at home, didn’t seem up for the challenge was the skipper himself, valued at £6.3m on Transfermarkt, who came in for a torrent of abuse following his action, or lack thereof, for Everton’s opening goal:

“Absolutely awful from Cooper, that. Pathetic.”

“Captain Cooper stood watching. Embarrassing defending.”
“Liam Cooper defending like the championship player he is”
“Get Liam Cooper out this club”
“Cooper just stands and watches him”
“Cooper just didn’t track the run at all pathetic”

Would you say Liam Cooper is Leeds United's most important defender?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Given Leeds were handed an uphill task to make it three wins on the trot, it is no wonder fans are looking to point the finger at someone – and looking at the footage, it seems Cooper literally has very little defence over his inability to stop Everton edging in front at Elland Road.
