Many Celtic fans have been slating Vasilis Barkas over his performance in the Hoops’ latest Premiership clash with Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.
The Greece international, who moved to Parkhead from AEK Athens for £4.5m back in July, had been benched for some of Celtic’s recent league games in the lead up to this Old Firm clash but Neil Lennon brought him back into the starting XI for their game against Dundee United on Wednesday and kept him in the team for this meeting with the league leaders.
Before this derby game, Lennon justified the selection of Barkas by explaining that the 26-year-old was brought to Parkhead to be Celtic’s first-choice ‘keeper and declared that he wants him between the sticks for Celtic’s big games.
It would appear as though the Greek ‘keeper failed to impress many fans of his club via his performance on Saturday, however.
So, what have these Celtic fans been saying about Vasilis Barkas?
Plenty of Celtic fans indicated that they think Barkas played poorly versus Rangers, while some simply indicated that his presence on the pitch makes them nervous.
“Barkas is awful. Why did we pay so much for him?? He cant jump, his positioning is terrible. Why is Hazard not in?”
“Celtic team even know to keep the ball as far away from barkas as possible”
“Barkas been a waste of a jersey btw.”
“First half dominance but still worried about Barkas. Need to be more clinical second half and but this to bed #RANCEL”
“Barkas makes me way too nervous”
“Honking goalkeeping from Barkas”
“Barkas is terrible – absolutely terrible”
Did Barkas play badly versus Rangers?
“Zero confidence in Barkas!!!!”
“Barkas gives me the fear”
All in all, it would seem as though plenty of Hoops fans feel that Lennon made a mistake by going with Barkas for this one.
