Dom Howson and James Marriott spent some time talking about Sheffield Wednesday transfer business on the latest edition of Owls-focused podcast Singing The Blues and the journalist revealed that work is going on behind the scenes at Hillsborough on transfer targets despite the fact the club has no permanent manager at present.

Tony Pulis was sacked by the Owls in late December after guiding the club to just one win in 10 league games. Wednesday are yet to appoint his permanent successor, with academy manager Neil Thompson currently pulling double-duty, adding taking charge of the first team to his list of tasks.

An easy one to kick off our quiz on the 2020 summer transfer window in the EFL, which player left Birmingham City to join Borussia Dortmund?

Earlier this week, Owls journalist Joe Crann shared that he’s of the belief that the Yorkshire club will put their transfer business on hold as they search for their next permanent manager but during this podcast, Howson revealed that work on transfer targets is going on behind the scenes and the club is unlikely “to stop lining up players.”

He said: “They’re on the lookout now for the new manager but they still have already done a background check and work’s going on behind the scenes on transfer targets and so, I don’t think that, necessarily, they’re going to stop lining up players.”

TIF Thoughts on what Howson said about Sheffield Wednesday’s behind the scenes transfer activity…

Considering that Chansiri revealed one of the reasons for Pulis’ sacking after being in charge at Hillsborough for just over a month was that the squad simply didn’t fit his preferred style of play, maybe it would be sensible for the Owls to appoint their next permanent manager before pushing ahead with making January signings, in case they don’t fit the new manager’s style of play.

However, maybe it’s wise of the club’s recruitment team to continue their work and line up the right players for a preferred style of play that would suit the type of manager that Chansiri wants to appoint.

Should Wednesday be lining up transfer targets right now?

YES

YES

NO

NO

While Howson claimed that the Owls are still lining up transfer targets, he didn’t say that signings are imminent and perhaps the new manager would appreciate having options presented to him, in detail, upon his arrival, so as long as the targets they’re lining up are good fits for the next Owls manager, we feel this may be wise of Wednesday’s recruitment team. If they line up the wrong types of players, however, then this may be a waste of time.
