Many Celtic fans have been responding to a post from the club’s official Twitter account which relayed footage of club captain Scott Brown discussing the news that chief executive Peter Lawwell is set to depart from the Glasgow club in the summer

In this recent press conference, Brown described the news that Lawwell will be retiring as “very sad”, with the 35-year-old midfielder going on to claim that the 61-year-old, who will be leaving Celtic after spending 17 years in the chief executive role, “loves this club more than anyone”.

So, how have these Celtic fans been reacting to Brown’s comments?

The £900k-rated Hoops captain’s comments have not gone down well with fans of the Glasgow club. Celtic’s tweet sharing footage of Brown’s press conference drew a largely negative response from Hoops supporters.

“This is the problem, the love in at the club allows for complacency, every department should be judged on results. Let’s not forget that he was bypassed for the appointment of the man who brought true success and structure to the club while lawwell drove him out the door.”

“All that legacy flushed away in 6 months because he wanted to save money and went for the cheap option. Sad really”

“What kind of legend says nothing about blatant cheating? Also lost the club millions due to his gambling on CL qualification. Lost the 10 from a position of strength, treated the supporters like dirt. He wont be missed.”

All in all, it certainly seems as though a lot of Celtic fans won’t miss Lawwell, with some indicating that they think he must shoulder some blame for the Hoops’ negative season which has seen them get knocked out of Europe and the Scottish League Cup, while they currently trail Old Firm rivals Rangers by a significant margin in the Premiership, putting their chances of winning a potentially historic 10th straight Scottish top-flight title in jeopardy.
