The Sunday Mail’s chief football writer Scott McDermott appeared on the latest edition of the Record Rangers podcast, during which he spent some time talking about Peterborough United attacker Siriki Dembele and his links to the Glasgow giants.

This comes after Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry confirmed that the Gers have taken an interest in the 24-year-old, who handed in a transfer request at the Posh earlier this month.

How well do you remember Rangers' 2020/21 season so far? We'll start you off with an easy one... Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the opening gameweek of the Premiership, but which player scored the only goal of the game?

After describing the playing style of the older brother of Karamoko Dembele, who plays for Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic, during this podcast, McDermott went on to suggest that he thinks this may not be a bad move from the Glasgow club, claiming that this is the type of market the Gers should be shopping in and stating that he’s not surprised they’ve scouted Dembele.

The journalist said: “Very quick, very nimble, can play either side, he’s got a goal in him, quite exciting player, I think people down there believe he can definitely go and play at a higher level.

“I did a piece with him, seems like a couple of years ago now, I’m not sure how long ago it was, really ambitious boy, wants to go to the highest level, nice kid as well.

“He’s young, it’s the kind of market that Rangers should be looking at, he’s obviously handed in a transfer request, so he’s clearly going to be available at some point very soon.

“I’ve not seen enough of him to say he’ll be a great player for Rangers or he would crack it up here but it’s certainly an interesting one and I’m not surprised, given his kind of situation down there and given his profile, I’m not surprised that Rangers have scouted him and are looking at him.”

TIF Thoughts on what McDermott said about Dembele…

In addition to the fact that Dembele has handed in a transfer request at Peterborough United, the attacker’s Posh contract is set to expire at the end of this season, per Transfermarkt, so with it looking like he sees his future elsewhere, perhaps it would be wise for the EFL League One side to cash in on him this month, although he has played a significant role for Darren Ferguson’s side this term, as he’s currently the club’s second-highest goalscorer (five) and second-highest assist provider (five) in all competitions for the 2020/21 campaign.

As a result, perhaps there is a chance that they will sell and if they rate him highly based on the scouting it seems that they’ve done on him, then it may be the right time for the Gers to make their move and it will be interesting to see if that happens as we get further into the January transfer window.
