Former Celtic player Mark Wilson has recently talked about Karamoko Dembele and his lack of playing time.
Wilson was hosting the latest episode of the Celtic Huddle podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was whether the club should give more game time to the younger players. One man that they talked about Dembele and Wilson believes that the 17-year-old should be playing more.
Does Karamoko Dembele deserve more game time?
Dembele is a product of the Celtic youth academy and the youngster recently featured for the Bhoys in their 1-1 draw against Hibernian. His previous appearance in the league before that came in a Premiership game against Hamilton, which was the first game of the campaign (as per Transfermarkt).
Wilson talked about Dembele and he feels that many players start playing regularly at 17, but the Celtic youngster isn’t.
He said: “Dembele got very limited game time last night. I think the last time we’d seen him was the first game of the season against Hamilton where he came on for a wee cameo. He’s been lauded as this world-beater. He’s 17 now. Top players play at 17, do they not? So is it about time we actually see some of these guys getting 90 minutes, rather than five minutes at the end of games?”
TIF Thoughts on Wilson’s comments on Dembele…
Dembele was included in L’Equipe’s list of ‘The wonders of European football’ and that might be a reflection of the talent that he has as a youngster.
Having said that, it was recently reported that Celtic’s backroom staff have concerns about Dembele’s application in training. It has been stated that there are issues about his physical development that have cropped up too, even though he was expected to be James Forrest’s understudy for the right-wing role.
This suggests that things aren’t going right for Dembele and perhaps, that is why he isn’t playing as much as people expect.
