Many Celtic fans have been fuming at the latest comments from Leigh Griffiths that recently emerged on social media.
Griffiths was recently talking about the Celtic fans’ support (as per The Scotsman) and the quest for the club’s tenth title in a row. The Scotsman said that while they love the club’s supporters, fans often forget what Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell have done for Celtic over the last few years. He believes that fans thought that it was a ‘foregone conclusion’ that the players were going to turn up and win the league once again, but Celtic need to earn the right to win the trophies.
Has Griffiths let Celtic down?
Yes
No
He said:”They’ve wanted this for so long. They’ve been singing about it. They thought it was a foregone conclusion that we were just going to turn up this season and win the ten. It doesn’t work like that. You need to earn the right to win trophies.”
These comments from the Hoops striker were relayed on Facebook by Glasgow Celtic Champions. Many supporters were fuming at what he had to say.
What did Celtic fans make of Griffiths’ comments?
Griffiths has played only 12 games for the Bhoys this season and he has scored five goals, while picking up two assists in all competitions. In the Premiership, he has played ten games while scoring four times.
While those aren’t bad numbers, Griffiths had turned up for training in an overweight condition and Neil Lennon had later criticised him publicly for not just being overweight, but for his actions on social media. He was left behind in Glasgow when Celtic’s squad had flown to France for pre-season friendlies.
These Celtic fans are very angry at Griffiths for his comments because it was the Scotsman who was overweight during pre-season. They feel that with that, he let the team down and he has no right to talk about the fans.
Even last month, Lennon had talked about Griffiths’ lack of fitness and he had urged him to push himself more in training. This shows that while Griffiths has scored some goals, he might have been more useful to the team had he been fit and ready for the season. Since he wasn’t, fans are right to call him out.
