Many Celtic fans have been discussing an update about Liam Shaw that recently emerged on social media.
It has recently been reported that Celtic are in advanced talks to sign Shaw on a pre-contract basis as his current deal at Sheffield Wednesday runs out at the end of the campaign. The talks have advanced over the last 24 hours and Celtic are now well placed to make a deal happen.
Should Celtic try to sign Shaw this month?
The young midfielder is also said to be in talks with Wednesday for a new contract but he is yet to reach an agreement with the Owls, which leaves the door open for the Hoops to do so.
What did Celtic fans make of this update about Shaw?
It has previously been reported that Wednesday indeed are looking to get Shaw to sign a new deal at the club and in a recent interview, the youngster himself made it clear that he wants his contract to be sorted out soon. He said that it would be ‘perfect’ for him to stay at Wednesday since it has been his dream to play for them (as per The Star).
He also confirmed that his agent has held talks with the club already but didn’t give away too many details about whether he will sign a new deal or not.
A lot of Celtic fans have negative things to say about this news, with some of them frustrated about the fact that their club is looking to sign players on a pre-contract basis and not right away this month.
Shaw though, can play in central midfield and can also play at centre-back. This shows his versatility as a player and the youngster is still only 19. So he may offer the potential to improve in the future. Signing a versatile young player on a free transfer may be a useful move, as it could allow Celtic some resale value too.
