Tim Spiers believes that AFC Bournemouth forward Josh King might be a bit too far out of Wolves’ price range this January transfer window.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are in the market for a forward given the uncertainty around the future of their main forward Raul Jimenez, following the Mexican’s injury that he suffered at the end of November.

One of the men being talked about is Bournemouth forward Joshua King, who is on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs. He’s got an impressive track record in the Premier League, hitting double digits twice over the course of a campaign. And with less than six months left on his current contract, now would be the time for the Championship side to sell or risk losing out in the summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of The Molineux View, Spiers thinks that the asking price for what Bournemouth want right now might not make much financial sense from a Wolves perspective.

Spiers said: “He’s out of contract in the summer as well. But that’s a bit of an issue, in that if Bournemouth are going to move him on now, they’re not going to loan him because he’s out of contract in the summer – why would they do that, they’re going for promotion? So it would only be a sale. And from what I’m told, they’d probably be looking for around 10 million pounds for a player who’s out of contract in the summer, as is their right. So I think that would be a bit of a sticking point for Wolves at this moment in time.”

TIF Thoughts on Spiers’ latest comments regarding Josh King…

Spiers did say earlier in the show that Wolves were unlikely to be big spenders in the window, so the fact that £10m appears to be out of their price range for someone of King’s ability and situation, doesn’t make for great reading if you want them to splash the cash.

However, on the basis Jimenez is back for next season, it could be argued that Wolves are essentially looking to bring someone in for six months, and that is a lot to fork out for someone who they’ll only get for half a season’s use out of. Even if he stays on longer than that, the £35m they spent on Fabio Silva indicates he’s likely going to be second or even first-choice going forward.

And it’s hard to imagine King willing to be a third-choice forward having spent most of his career as the main man.
