Journalist Joe Edwards doesn’t believe that Wolves are likely to make an approach for free agent Diego Costa at this moment.

Wolves have been without a main forward since Raul Jimenez suffered a devastating injury against Arsenal earlier in the season. Meanwhile, former Chelsea forward Costa has recently become a free agent after having his contract terminated by Atletico Madrid.

Which has led some people to put two and two together, added to the fact that Costa’s agent Jorge Mendes has got so many of his clients playing at Molineux at present to conclude that the 30-year-old could be about to make his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

However, speaking on the E&S Wolves Podcast (42:13), Edwards claimed that he has yet to hear anything that would suggest a concrete link regarding the move:

“It’s obviously, Wolves need a striker, he’s a Mendes client and he’s without a club… Plenty will make the link, I haven’t heard any substance to say that it will happen as of yet, but it’s obviously one that does draw your attention.”

Would Diego Costa be a good signing for Wolves to make?

Yes

Yes

No

No

A lot of this talk will more than likely be dictated by the news that comes out regarding Jimenez. If (and hopefully this isn’t the case), it ends up being a career-ending injury similar to that of Ryan Mason, then Wolves are probably likely to look for someone who can carry the load for the next four or five years.

Whereas if it’s more of a short-term thing, which he believes it will be, that can hopefully get him back for next season, and they only need someone to cover the next five months or so, then someone like Costa would probably be the ideal person to bring in just to keep things ticking along.
