Ian McGarry has been speaking on the latest edition of The Transfer Window podcast about news from various Premier League clubs, and one team which he briefly mentioned was West Ham United.

Moyes has since provided a big update on Declan Rice’s future as he claimed no bids have been received for the midfielder from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United recently.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

McGarry provided a short update on the Declan Rice situation with Chelsea still keen on signing the 22-year-old, but as it stands, that deal doesn’t look like it will be happening in this transfer window.

He said: (40:40) “He [Frank Lampard] still would like to acquire Declan Rice to be the anchor of a three-man central defensive unit.

“That, of course, is all dependent on price and availability, and as the transfer window comes towards its culmination at the end of this month, it certainly has not moved forward.”

TIF Thoughts on Rice’s situation…

Rice has until the summer of 2024 on his current deal at West Ham, and the Hammers have slapped an £80m transfer fee on his head, so they are protected in those terms, and if Chelsea do really want the England international, they are going to have to fork out a huge amount of money to make the deal happen.

It is interesting that the Blues want Rice to play in central defence, as though he has played there for West Ham before, he has made most of his appearances as a defensive midfield player, but it seems that Frank Lampard sees him as a centre-back.

The big news from this though, from a West Ham perspective, is that it looks like this deal is going nowhere and we think that could be great news for the Hammers as Rice has performed well for them this season.
