Football journalist Dean Ashton has made a claim concerning West Bromwich Albion and the potential business they could do during the current January transfer window.

This comes after Ashton recently made an appearance on talkSPORT’s Gameday Podcast where he spoke about a number of different topics concerning the Premier League.

To kick off this quiz on Matheus Pereira, from which Portuguese club did Albion sign the playmaker?

On the topic of West Brom and the potential transfer business the club could do this month, Ashton had this to say on the matter. (36.40)

He said: “[Sam Allardyce] wouldn’t have taken that job unless they’re going to allow him to bring his own players in and I’m expecting three, four, possibly five [incoming transfers] if he can shuffle a few players around.”

Allardyce took over at the Hawthorns last month after Slaven Bilic was sacked from his position. Overall, Allardyce has managed clubs such as Everton, Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland, West Ham United and Newcastle United with the Baggies being his latest team in the top-flight.

Out of the 515 games Allardyce has taken charge of in the Premier League, he has managed to win 174, draw 138 and lose 203 along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Dean Ashton’s comments on Allardyce and the January transfer window…

Given how Allardyce has failed to win a game as West Brom manager since he was appointed and the fact that the club are sat in the relegation zone of the Premier League table, maybe adding some new faces to the squad this month would be beneficial to the team and hopefully improve their chances of staying up.

Do you think West Brom will sign some players in January?

Yes

Yes

No

No

With the Baggies having conceded 39 goals so far in the league, more than any other team in the top-flight, in our view, signing some new defenders should be the priority for the club this month.
