Plenty of Tottenham Hotspur fans have been using Jose Mourinho’s positive comments as a way to bash defender Eric Dier.
Speaking after the game (via Dan Kilpatrick), the Spurs boss was full of praise for Welsh defender Joe Rodon, “Next game he plays for sure… Not a coward in the duels. A brave boy. He made one mistake, unlucky. One mistake out of context of a very good solid performance.”
Error aside, the summer signing did have a very impressive game for the most part, completing 93% of his passes and making two interceptions, on top of winning 100% of both his ground and aerial duels, so it’s no wonder that he was coming in for such high praise during the game.
But rather than take these words as a positive outlook on Rodon, the fans decided to take them as a chance to talk about how bad England international Dier looked by comparison, and saying that they should be seeing less of him moving forward as Rodon moves up the pecking order:
“Good to hear, but he absolutely cannot pair him with Dier again.”
Given their reported interest in signing a new centre-back this window and now this desire from the fans for him not to play as much, you’d be forgiven for thinking Dier’s days were numbered in North London after over six years and more than 250 games for the club.
