Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to news that Julian Araujo could be their first signing of the window.

According to a claim from Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Spurs are ‘about to finalise’ a move for American right-back Araujo from MLS side LA Galaxy. He will be the second right-back that the club have signed this season, having already signed Matt Doherty from Wolves back in the summer, and will be looking to fight it out for a place alongside the aforementioned Doherty and Serge Aurier.

However, Spurs fans didn’t seem too impressed with the news, as they took to social media to express their concern about making a move for a young American, with some questioning the league he’s coming from and whether or not he’s up to the task, comparing him with former Tottenham ‘flop’ DeAndre Yedlin:

“We’ve had a few Americans in the past…let’s hope this one pays off”

“Can’t go wrong just look at the last right back we signed for the MLS [Shrug emoji]”
“MLS no thank you”
“Getting mad Yedlin vibes rn”
“Yedlin MKII incoming”
“No doubt Araujo is a good player, but I don’t see the need of spending £5m on an upcoming right back, as well as adding another foreign player to our squad when we need more homegrown players. Waste of money personally but I wouldn’t complain cos he’s quality.”
“Interesting”
“This came out of nowhere. Wouldn’t get the work permit right away, but exciting nonetheless”
“José is looking to RB version of Reguilon.”

Will Spurs spend more than £15m this window?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Which just feels a little bit snobbish on the surface, and just because previous players haven’t worked out doesn’t mean this one won’t either.
