Supporters of Tottenham Hotspur have gushed after Alasdair Gold relayed a comment from Jose Mourinho regarding Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

During a recent question-and-answer session on his Twitter account, the German was asked if he would consider switching the Gunners for Spurs (via talkSPORT).

In answer to the question, the 32-year-old attacking midfielder claimed he would rather retire than move to The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ahead of Spurs’ game against Fulham on Wednesday night (per Premier League), Mourinho spoke to the press and addressed the tweet from Ozil (per Football.london, live blog, 12:22, 12/01/21).

He said: “Who told him that Tottenham would be interested in signing him?”

This comment was relayed to Tottenham fans on Twitter by Alasdair Gold and it had lots of them swooning.

During the 2019/20 Premier League season, the 32-year-old middleman made 18 league appearances for Arsenal, in which he scored once and assisted twice (per WhoScored).

His performances for the Gunners earned him a 6.71/10 average rating, making him the 12th-best performer in their squad.

The same average rating for Spurs in the Premier League this season would make Ozil their 11th-best performer, marginally ahead of Gareth Bale.
