Supporters of Tottenham Hotspur have recently flocked to a social media post which was shared on Instagram by English midfielder Dele Alli.
In recent months, transfer rumours have been hanging over the 24-year-old middleman’s head due to his lack of game time so far this season (per BBC).
One club that has been linked with a move for Alli on loan is French giants Paris Saint-Germain, who were also supposedly interested in the Englishman in the summer.
The story was picked up by Football.london, which claimed that it was a ‘cryptic’ message as he was not brought off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Fulham and the image was shared within 30 minutes of full-time.
After the story was shared by Daily Hotspur, lots of Tottenham fans flocked to it to air their reactions.
So, what did these Spurs fans have to say about Dele Alli’s Instagram story?
“You deserve better than “the special one” Dele, go chase your move away and show us all how much of a mistake it was to sell you”
“Deserved to get a chance tonight”
Alli has until the summer of 2024 on his existing deal at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and a current market value of £34.2m according to Transfermarkt.
Should Dele Alli leave Spurs for the good of his career?
No, he should stay here
Yes, he needs to leave
“Feel bad for dele, he could have changed the game tonight. Don’t know what’s going on but wouldn’t blame him for leaving he’s not gonna waste his career. Shame”
“It’s criminal what Mourinho is doing to Dele. He’s the best of young talent the country has. Spurs have thrown away 10 points from winning positions without him.”
So far this season, the Englishman has featured in just 75 minutes of Premier League action over four games in the top flight, in which he has neither scored nor assisted a goal (per WhoScored).
His performances have been poor, too, as he has been Tottenham’s worst-rated player in the league with a 6.11/10 average rating.
“Why did it have to end like this”
“Dont leave. He will be gone soon”
“No words needed”
“Something wrong in the camp”
As can be seen in these responses from Spurs supporters, many of them sympathised with him following his post on Instagram.
Given the timing of his post, it is clear why some fans believe the image points towards deeper-rooted problems at the club, with Alli’s indirect message perhaps encapsulating the mood at Spurs, who have now only won once in their last six league fixtures.
